The article investigates the measures and identifies the possibilities of ensuring the competitiveness of the fish industry and its components of fisheries and aquaculture in the new conditions of the functioning of the national economy. The possibilities of ensuring the competitiveness of the fish industry are singled out. The analysis of the development of world fishing and aquaculture has been carried out. Emphasis has been placed on overcoming the problem of malnutrition with the simultaneous management of organic production and the achievement of the competitiveness of the fisheries sector. It has been established that in the medium term, an increase in the total production of fish products is expected to increase by about 15%, with aquaculture being the main component of the increase in production, and annual growth rates of fishing will remain stable (0.3%), while the growth of aquaculture production will increase steadily (5.3%); in the medium-term, the overall yield of aquaculture is expected to be moderate and finally stabilizes at higher levels than during high prices (2006-2013). It is proposed to create favorable conditions for ensuring the competitiveness of industry development in the domestic and foreign markets; to establish a system for the formation of indicators of fish and fish products production, taking into account the experience of the system of data collection on fish farming, management in the European Union on the basis of the provisions of the Data Collection Regulation (DCR) No. 1543/2000 dated June 29, 2000 and the Data Acquisition System (DCF)
