The article examines the basic principles of sustainable aquaculture functioning as a promising sector of the national economy in ensuring food security and improving the living standards of the population. It has been established that under the new economic conditions, unfavorable external and internal factors in the development of aquaculture have led to the dominance of imported fish and seafood on the Ukrainian market, therefore, for the development of aquaculture, it is necessary to develop a strategic plan for the sustainable development of the industry. The strategic directions of sustainable development of aquaculture are substantiated, economic levers and methods of regulation of sectoral development are revealed in order to saturate the market with fish products of appropriate quality and preserve ecosystems. Directions for sustainable development of the aquaculture sector are proposed, taking into account European experience. Taking into account the development of the situation in the European market for the practical use of aquaculture systems and practices, strategic directions of their development in the direction of integrating technologies, socio-economic and natural resources and their effective management to achieve sustainability have been identified. The factors of development of the fishing industry are considered in order to economically justify the implementation of measures and proposals that will contribute to the intensive growth of domestic aquaculture. It is proposed to reorient the financial state support of the aquaculture industry towards the modernization and improvement of existing production, thus ensuring its diversification. It has been proven that in the future, aquaculture in Ukraine should receive the status of a sustainable industry, which guarantees long-term preservation of jobs, the development of rural and coastal areas, and the creation of alternatives to traditional fishing. The expediency of introducing effective market strategies in the industry has been substantiated in order to ensure a balance between production and demand for aquaculture products
